$252 Raised for Support Our Troops 5K Charity

My name is Jennifer Walters, I am an avid runner here in Staten Island. My Father was a Vietnam Veteran and sadly he passed away from cancer in December 2020 due to Agent Orange.  My Dad served with the US Army 1st Infantry, Big Red One from 1966-1968, He always said "You leave the war, but the war never leaves you."  He suffered from PTSD and depression, which most, if not all, veterans do.  I grew up watching the effects of his pain and nightmares from this horrible disorder. Since I was a kid, I always accompanied my Dad to numerous memorials and often made donations whenever we could.  This is something that was instilled in me to this day.  My Father was a recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal, which made me even more proud of him and call him my hero.  Since his passing, I wanted to keep the connection to him alive so every year I organize a 5k run called SUPPORT OUR TROOPS 5K  and 1 Mile Walk to give back to our active and veteran military that fight everyday for our freedom and the things we love. I do it all in my Father’s memory. I was raised in a home were we support our military and help those who are in need.  Having a love for running and a strong devotion to our military and veterans, I teamed up with Complete Race Solutions and host the annual 5K Run/Walk at beautiful Wolfe's Pond Park here in Staten Island.

We are a Non For Profit charity and Our goal is to send any kind of support to our active and veteran military where it is much needed. A chance to give back and thank them for all they do for our country. There are too many homeless veterans, active/veterans battling PTSD, health issues with no support, and inadequate living conditions for those who are disabled, the list goes on. With our support, we can help give them the assistance they so desperately need. 

They are heroes who risk their lives every day to protect our country and always make it a better place to live. Be a hero to a hero.
