Kokopelli Relay Where & When
Most Helpful Review
Beautiful Route, Well Organized
The scenery in Kokopelli is second to none. From towering sandstone cliffs to high mountain passes this course has it all. Even better than the scenery is that the race is well organized. The website and pre-race emails were helpful in preparing for the event. The course was well marked, despite being over 500 miles in length. Grab a few friends or ride the entire thing yourself. This is a must do race.
Best Relay!
This was first time riding the Kokopelli. it was managed extremely well. It was a fun ride and we will be back next year.
Stupid COVID
We were lloking foward to this race the moment we crossed the line in Ivins last year. Unfortunately, they had to delay the relay. Cameron was easy to work with regarding our fees and registrations. We are looking forward to 2021 for sure!
Best Cycling Event of the Year!
The most beautiful, the most fun and the most anticipated cycling event of the year! I was so happy to ride with my teammates again in 2021 after the 2020 hiatus. Each leg of the relay has its challenges and rewards…this year’s reward for me was the middle of the night leg from Boulder to Escalante…just me, the Milky Way and millions of stars lighting the road! It was the experience of a lifetime! Thank you Kokopelli organizers!
Mr T
This is one of the best races of the year !! These guys put a lot of effort into making this event awesome right from the start to the finish in Saint George and everywhere in between. Can’t wait for next year 🚴🏾👍👍
Best way to not sleep all night
This is a great event. The course is absolutely incredible and its an event that will challenge you, no matter what level you are at. I've always done a 4 person team, which can really push you, even if you are very fast. At the same time, an 8 person team makes this race approachable for just about anyone who likes to ride a bike. The race is well ran, especially if you pay attention to their communication.
a great team event
Riding the Kokopelli Relay course in a four-rider team is a challenge, but a very rewarding one. I offer sincere compliments to the organizers for arranging for a great event in 2021. Especially noteworthy was the organizers' effective re-routing of the relay at the last minute, which was necessitated by wildfires (or threat thereof). My only negative critique of the event pertains to the low number of toilets at the transfer points. There was almost always a line of three to five folks waiting. Adding a second porta-potty, especially at transfers between Dirty Devil and Escalante would have been really welcome. And I never did find one at all in Henrieville. The weather really cooperated this year. The usual screaming cross-wind did not materialize on the Cedar-to-Enterprise leg. The fears of exorbitant temperatures were unfounded, even on the sun-baked climb to Mule Canyon Transfer which turned out to be warm but not sweltering. Crazy, isn't it, that a rider who was fighting of heat stroke on one leg had to really bundle up with extra layers and regretted leaving his ski gloves at home on the next (descent from Boulder Mtn)! In all, the memory of a very pleasant but challenging ride across the state will linger for another year.
mentally and physically challenging and rewarding
We attended this event for the first time in 2019 and learned a great deal (many things the hard way). In 2021 we were much better prepared logistically and still learned a great deal about what we could have done differently. The race is well organized and the last minute route changes were well communicated. This event will challenge you in many ways and you have to expect the unexpected. The temperature shifts are drastic (my first leg my Garmin bike computer said 109 and my overnight leg my Garmin said 35 degrees. I would certainly STRONGLY recommend this event to any person or group of people looking for an epic event. We traveled from the KC area and this event is worth the trip.
Fun Time
This was my first relay race and I had a really good time. I was unprepared for the cool night time temps, but fortunately I was able to borrow a teammate's jacket. This was a fun way to see southern Utah. The provided race guide was very helpful and I was constantly referring to it to check out the length and elevation changes for the various legs.

Great relay, definitely a test of endurance! An experience in the 3Hs of cycling-- Hills, Heat and Headwinds!
Breathtaking Event!
What an incredible race and one definitely to add to your list! The race was on the smaller side in terms of participants - likely due to the difficulty of the terrain and the remoteness of the location. However, if you can manage the course and environment, it is an absolutely breathtaking ride through terrain seemingly from out of this world. Definitely one of the most scenic and diverse rides I've ever done and highly recommend it to anyone. We raced a 4-man team in the non-competitive category and exchanged out at each of the 24 transitions. The course is a challenging one and proved difficult in evenly splitting up the different legs based on level of difficulty. There are many things we would likely do differently again having now gone through it once. I would definitely recommend renting an RV for the race as it made the difficult task of resting at least manageable. Much of the race is on roads with light traffic so it felt very safe even though most of the ride is done alone. Race Support was adequate for the type of race that it is and I felt that the entire race was very well organized. Plan on providing all the support you will need along the way and prepare for cold, heat, wind, etc. Thanks again to the Kokopelli organizers for their willingness to keep races like this alive!
Truly amazing
I cannot recommend this event enough. We participated as an overseas team from the UK. The organisation was first class. The event itself was amazing - the route and scenery were second to none and a fantastic way to see the beauty of Utah. Traffic was light and the camaraderie between teams refreshing. All round excellent event and well worth entering (teams makes it a bit easier given the length and terrain). Well done Cameron.
