Piestewa Challenge Race Description
We are dedicating the month of March to highlighting female service members and veterans. We are closing the month with, what we call, the Piestewa Challenge, a 1-week long physical challenge for teams to move 177 miles in honor of the 177 women who have made the ultimate sacrifice since 9/11/2001. The challenge is named in honor of SPC Lori Piestewa, the first Native American woman to be killed in combat on foreign soil. We closely collaborate with the Hopi People on this special event. While the first three weeks of March highlight those still serving or who have served, the final week highlights those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
