(race date estimated)Seacoast Relay - NAOC/JTRR Race Description
2024 Sea Coast Relay Course
(approximately 21.7 miles) June 1, 2024
The miles for each leg are approximate. Leg 1 is slightly different from previous races. Runners will not turn right onto Goat Hill Road at the end of Auke Lake Trail.
Runners run on the left hand side the road for all legs (facing oncoming traffic).
Leg one (~2.8 miles)
The race begins at the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) in front of the Egan Library. Proceed from the start line onto Auke Lake Way and follow cones to the short bridge that will lead you through the Auke Lake parking area. Follow marked route to the footpath along Glacier Highway and turn left on the Auke Lake trail. Run on the trail towards the Back Loop Road. As you exit the trail, make a left onto Back Loop Road. Runners will stay on the left side of the road as they run to the University paved footpath to turn left and enter UAS to finish exactly where they started.
Leg two (~3.8 miles)
Runners leave the start line and head up the sidewalk toward the main parking lot, to the road that will lead out the main UAS entrance. Runners will proceed to the end of this road and turn left at the Back Loop Road, continuing on the sidewalk down to the roundabout. Runners will use the crosswalks at the roundabout until reaching the Dehart’s side of the road. Runners will proceed towards the ferry terminal on the left hand side of the road (facing oncoming traffic) and head north. Runners will turn left into the Auke Recreation area and continue to the end of their leg (just past the totem pole).
Leg three (~3.5 miles)
Runners will continue running through Auke Recreation towards the old Lena Road. The road will be well marked so that you end up on the old Lena Road. Runners will run along the old Lena Road until they reach the Lena Picnic area where they will make a left into the picnic area. The end of the leg will be near the last shelter.
Leg four (~6.0 miles)
Runners will make a left out of the Lena Picnic area onto the main highway and remain on the left side of the road facing oncoming traffic. Runners will pass Tee Harbor and run towards the Shrine of St. Therese. Stage four will finish in the large pull out past the Shrine of St Therese. The finish line is two pullouts past the Shrine. Support vehicles should park in the first pullout and walk to the second to avoid congestion at the exchange station.
Leg five (~5.6 miles)
Runners will continue north on the highway passing Herbert River and Eagle River. Runners will continue on the highway past the Eagle Beach State Park Station and continue to the north entrance of the State Park. Runners will make a left on the drive that will curve to the south along the beach picnic sites. The finish line will be near the reserved Outer Beach picnic shelter.
Lunch provided to all participants at the Eagle Beach finish line.
