(race date estimated)Helene Cody Cranbury 5K Race Description
The Helene Cody Cranbury 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run is held on a flat and fast course in the tree-lined streets and parks of Cranbury, NJ. The 5K is chip-timed and takes place on a USATF-certified course with a water station that is passed twice. It is perfect for runners and walkers of all levels, from elite runners looking to score a personal record to those who want to try a 5K for the first time. The 1 Mile Fun Run takes place in Heritage Park, making it a great race for walkers, beginner runners, and kids of all ages and their parents.
The post-race celebration at Heritage Park will have a DJ, drinks, bagels, and fruit. Raffle prizes will be awarded to lucky race participants. Participants of both races receive a t-shirt or custom water bottle with their race packet, while supplies last. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers overall and in each age group for the 5K (age groups: 10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80 & up). Every 1 Mile Fun Run finisher will receive a medal and trophies will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers. The Cranbury Day celebration will begin immediately after the race on Main Street.
We are proud to celebrate Helene’s legacy with the proceeds of the race funding the Helene Cody Scholars program, which provides leadership training, mentoring, scholarships, and project funding for high school students selected to complete a high-impact community service project in central NJ. Helene Cody passed away unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm in 2008 on her 16th birthday. Helene had planned to revive the Cranbury Day 5K that had been previously discontinued as a way to combine her love of distance running and community service. The Helene Cody Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity, hosts the race as a way to honor Helene’s legacy, bring the community together, and fund youth community service projects and scholarships. 100% of proceeds from the race go to the Helene Cody Foundation.
The races start and finish at Heritage Park in Cranbury, with parking available at the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury and The Cranbury Inn. Registration begins at 7:30 AM, the 1 Mile Fun Run begins at 8:15 AM, and the 5K begins at 9:00 AM. The cost to register in advance (by Wednesday 9/6) is $30 (+ processing fee) for the 5K and $25 (+ processing fee) for the 1 Mile Fun Run. Race day registration is $35 (+ processing fee) for the 5K and $30 (+ processing fee) for the 1 Mile Fun Run. All are welcome to participate, including walkers and strollers.
